When It Hits Home...
Lately, I haven’t written anything so much as a Tweet in the last week or so. I think I caught the ‘absorb the madness’ bug from one of my favorite bloggers, Enemy of the Republic. And mind you, not so much that it is a bad thing, however I am finding myself absorbing the craziness of the world. I’ve been fixated on the media, watching stories unfold of the injustice of Iran’s elections and the brutality, bloodshed and horrific Youtube videos and Twitter updates of the massacres that are going on. A young woman who was protesting was shot in the chest. She was identified as, Neda Aghan Soltan, to be made an example of the horrific killings that are going on. The video is even too graphic and more so, sad to even display on my blog. I’m just giving acknowledgment and a link if you want to watch the video. It is very disturbing to watch, so I warn you. While Neda was shot in the heart, a man was kneeling next to her crying out in Farsi, “My Neda, don’t be afraid, please don’t go, please don’t go, please stay...!” One woman, made as an example and many people also killed in the same way.
Then you have North Korea threatening to wipe America off the map with a nuclear war. Has this world gone completely mad? I’ve contemplated about airing my views regarding Obama’s reactions, decisions, choices, promises, lack thereof, as well as his ability (or disability) to maintain the U.S. as the strongest nation. Obama is concerned about going aboard Korea’s warship named, “Kang Nam”, to investigate whether or not it is carrying weapons of mass destruction. He’s so afraid of being called another “Bush” that he is possibly backing away from them - bowing down to a weaker country. John McCain suggested that we should definitely investigate regardless of these “silly” threats being made to the United States. There is no diplomacy when it comes to dealing with unreasonable countries who simply hate us. This was why I voted for John McCain. He would not pull his pants down for another dinky country to make these types of threats. This is another reason why I voted for Bush. I’d rather my marriage equality to suffer than the world. It’s a no brainer.I know most of you disagree with my views on politics, and I understand. Everyone wants peace. I want peace. I think peace talks would be great...if they only worked. For years these countries have hated us so much - what would possibly change? There is no “change”. As far as my religious views go on this: we are in Revelations as we speak. Who would have thought the Bible has made better predictions than Nostradamus, Sylvia Browne or even Miss Cleo?
I’ve been advised to stay away from all sources of the news. I’ve been told not to read the papers, not to tune into any news channels and to just focus on ~positive~ things. I used to tell Enemy of the Republic the same thing. Now, I’m in her shoes absorbing too much of this. We heard about the slaughters that took place in other countries, but now with Youtube, Twitter and Facebook, we are viewing it with our very own eyes which makes it more “real”. I guess when we don’t ‘see it’, we kind of put it on the back burner. When threats are made to other countries, we sometimes tend to disregard it. When threats are made to us - the United States - the strongest country in the world, then it hits home.

I was going to do a post about north korea as well today, but diverted because it seems so pointless to even talk about it. Some people think we should be peaceful and let whatever happens happen. Some people think we should just charge in and take control of the situation.
Me? I don't know where I land. I know that I am affraid of what may happen, and in the great abundance of political wording, we may be looking ever closer to mutually assured destruction.
Little by little, humans will wipe the face of humanity off themselves.
excellent
Deb...First the Kang Nam is a merchant vessel. Under the recently passed UN mandate it will be inspected by whatever country t sets port in. It is being shadowed by US Destroyers.

the above is from the christian Science Monitor. A highly respected paper.
Second...Your politics are your politics no matter what anyone thinks...you have a right to think and feel as you do. although I am not all on board with the legislation I see moving through the congress domestically I do think the president is taking a diplomats tone. Not only is the man CiC he is also the chief diplomat for the country.
Whether he will need the stones to move us to yet another war remains to be (hopefully never) seen.
But information is key. It is the deciphering the information that turns the key and shows what is behind the door, try not to get all wrapped up in what you read and see. It will make you nuts if you do. Take a step back and be objective.
Peace.
Thanks for the mention, Deb. I've been really blocked in my writing, and only recently have started to slowly comment on posts again. I have no idea what is going on with me. Perhaps the world is just too damn nuts and I can't deal. So I get you, friend.
Xmichra: I was hesitant on writing about it, but since I was consumed with all the info I’ve been reading, hearing and seeing, I had to vent my feelings toward it. I know we all want peace, but there is no peace with these types of countries. They’ve hated us for years - which is why I’m afraid... But yes, you’re right, humans will wipe the face of humanity off themselves, sadly.
Clay: I know we have similar views - thanks for stopping by!
The Walking Man: Well, if it’s classified as a “merchant vessel”, then why are they giving us a hard time investigating it? That’s what I don’t understand. I’m not familiar with ships or whatever they’re floating upon, but if our country wants to investigate a ship that is assumed or thought to have weapons of mass destruction, then what problem would it be if we went and looked if it is just a merchant ship? I totally support our president, (trying to), but there are things that would have went differently if McCain was in. I know, I know, probably not as diplomatic as what we have now, but are these countries displaying peace at all? I don’t get it. We show peace and they show resistance and aggression. This is how I see it though. And yeah you are SO right - I should step awayyyyyyyyy from the news. Thanks for clarifying things and giving me your input! I really appreciate it! I love hearing your views. Maybe I should sit with you and watch the news. You can translate it for me because I get so riled up with this stuff. Help!!!
Two months ago, I decided to stop watching or listening to the news. And I really have done so. And a few weeks ago, I stopped reading blogs - for a different reason. Well, just because I was offline for a while. And so I was completely in the dark. I heard about Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett at a party yesterday. That's how I get the news. I had no clue about North Korea.
Well does war work? Maybe peace doesn't but war hasn't turned out that great either which is why some countries have been at war or war-like situations for YEARS.
"why are they giving us a hard time investigating it?"
Because it's North Korea and little dong kim thinks if he doesn't continue to rumble and shake the tree then the world will forget that he is a "super power." You know how guys are about penis size and shit.
We could in fact interdict the ship on the high seas and have done so in certain instances where we were certain they contained missiles destined for Syria and such.
This time though because of the new UN mandate the ship will be inspected by any signatory to the UN that it comes into the port of.
Right now, or last I read was the ship was at anchor outside of Singapore harbor and Singapore has said it will conduct a search for weapons if it comes to dock. so things right now are in check waiting on the PRK's next move.
The big thing again is don't fear what you have no control over and control the things you fear.
Leesa: Sometimes we all need to take a step back from the media and the internet just for our own sanity. Missed ya though!
SJ: You’re right. It’s just sad that we have to maintain the ‘game face’ and relinquish peace in order to keep war at bay on our own soil. I totally hear ya though.
The Walking Man: Ah, the guy with the Ferrari type of mindset. I get it. You’re right. I guess I’m hoping that the U.S. will deflate their heads and make them realize that their “silly” threats are just that. And I didn’t know that it was anchored outside of Singapore. Did they threaten them too? Probably not, right? And if you don’t mind, I’d like to use this awesome quote you have written here! I love love love it! Thank you so much! I’m even going to Twitter that one!
